Telcel consistently offered the best mobile experience to its customers, according to Tutela’s 2020 State of Mobile Report for Mexico, which has been released today. The report found that Telcel offered its users the highest Excellent Consistent Quality performance in the country, with 70.5% of tests meeting the ‘Excellent’ threshold that Tutela uses to represent a group of higher-intensity use cases including 1080p video streaming, HD video calls or mobile gaming. Telcel was also the only operator to reach the 90% threshold needed for Core Consistent Quality, as well as having the fastest download and upload speeds in Mexico. 

Tutela has evaluated over 6 billion records in Common Coverage Areas across Mexico, including over 39 million speed tests and 676 million latency tests, collected between September 1, 2019 and February 29, 2020.   

Key findings from this report include:

• Telcel outperformed the other operators in four of the five metrics tested, narrowly missing out on a clean sweep thanks to AT&T having the best latency in Mexico. 
• Telcel had the highest Excellent Consistent Quality percentage in the country with 70.5% and was the only operator to reach the 90% threshold for Core Consistent Quality with 92.9%. 
• Although Movistar may not have reached number one in any of the rankings, it did create some strong competition for Telcel in Core Consistent Quality with a difference of only 4.1% and also for download speed with a difference of 4.2 Mbps.  

Leandro Demarchi, Sales Director for Tutela in LATAM and Southern Europe, said: “All operators in Mexico continue to show us great results, however there is room for improvement from Movistar and AT&T if they wish to rival Telcel, which dominated in 4 of the 5 categories tested. Notably, AT&T broke away from the competition for the Excellent Consistent Quality metric, although there were smaller gaps in regards to the lower thresholds of Core Consistent Quality and upload speeds. We look forward to seeing how all operators utilize upcoming new technology and infrastructure, including the rise of 5G, to give that best possible performance to subscribers across the country.“
