Apple dominates despite absence at MWC 2018

Key findings from crowd-sourced data collected at MWC from 23,000 devices

During the course of Mobile World Congress this year, Tutela's software was installed and ran in the background of over 23,000 mobile devices within the conference venue, representing a statistically significant 20% of total attendees.

Here is a summary of our findings.

iPhone X was the most popular device

We found despite Apple’s lack of official presence at the show, and the dominance of Android suppliers, the majority of devices we detected among attendees were infact iPhones.

Hall 3 was the most popular

AT&T US was the most popular home network

The most popular network provider among our users was AT&T US. We saw over 1,600 users from that network. This was more than the local users from Spain.

USA and UK were the most popular origins

Looking at the locale and languages on the devices, it appeared that most users at the conference hailed from the US, UK, Spain and South Korea in that order.

(Note that these numbers could be skewed by default locale and language settings on some devices)

Tuesday was the most popular day

It looked like Tuesday was most popular and Thursday was least popular.

8-9am was the most popular time to arrive

By geo-filtering on the entrance area only, we can see that 8-9am was the busiest time, when most people seemed to arrive - although it started to get busy as early as 7am.

Even some new Samsung Galaxy S9 devices had Tutela installed

To our surprise, our software had already been installed on 24 of the brand new Samsung Galaxy S9 phones at MWC. We collected data from 7 different model variants of the S9.

Taking a look at the S9s, the SM-G965 variants have the most memory (RAM)
