As 2019 draws to a close, Tutela looks into the performance of mobile operators in Costa Rica.
Between August 1st and October 31st 2019, Kolbi ICE had the highest Excellent Consistent Quality percentage of 67.3%, which looks at different use cases to identify the quality of each connection - including video streaming. Kolbi ICE also had the fastest download and upload speed for this period, with 10.6 ms and 4.3 ms respectively.
Kolbi ICE dominates Consistent Quality
Kolbi ICE has the highest Excellent Consistent Quality percentage in Costa Rica with 67.3% and easily reaches the 90% threshold for Core Consistent Quality at 95.0%. With a rather large difference of 21.1%, Movistar is in second place with an Excellent Consistent Quality percentage of 46.2% but also manages to reach the Core Consistent Quality threshold with 92.8%. Claro rounds out the top three with 38.5% Excellent Consistent Quality and 85.6% Core.
Kolbi ICE has strong lead on download speeds
Kolbi ICE is again in first place with a healthy lead over the countries other operators in regards to transfer speeds, with 10.6 Mbps download speed and 4.3 Mbps upload speed. Movistar has a download speed of 6.4 Mbps and 3.3 Mbps upload. Claro is in third place with 4.1 Mbps download speed and 3.3 Mbps upload speed.
Kolbi ICE latency performs best on 4G network
For latency, Kolbi ICE takes out the top spot on the 4G network but the margin is much closer compared to consistent quality and speed tests. Kolbi ICE has a latency of 49.3 ms on 4G, followed by Claro at 52.0 ms and Movistar at 53.3 ms.
In regards to the 3G network, Claro came first with 58.9 ms, Kolbi ICE at 60.0 ms and Movistar in third with 62.4 ms.
