Bolivia: Tigo top 3G and 4G speeds in our latest report


Tigo lead download speeds across both 4G and 3G with average speeds of 7.19Mbps, as well as leading the 4G race in Cochabamba. However, our results for the last quarter show Entel dominating the 4G race overall with average download speeds of 10.84Mbps and reaching averages of 11.65Mbps in La Paz. Similar to our results for the last quarter ending in April, Entel also lead our latency chart for the country.

Tigo have been making a number of improvements this year, the latest announcement from the operator reports reaching 85% coverage of La Paz, covering 17 of the 20 regions, with further investment planned totalling $150m overall for the year.

Tigo top our upload table

Tigo also lead our latest upload speed tests, marginally ahead of Entel with average speeds of 5.19Mbps compared with Entel’s 4.97Mbps. Viva sit in third place in both our download and upload speed tests for the last quarter with 8.90Mbps and 3.95Mbps on 4G respectively.

Viva perform best for network stability

With the lowest average results for jitter and packet loss of the three key players in Bolivia, Viva perform best overall. Entel also perform well for low average packet loss but are let down by their high jitter results. Tigo score the highest of the three for both jitter and packet loss with results of almost 1.2% and 4.5ms respectively on 4G. Although turnover for Viva has reportedly dropped year on year, mobile subscribers have increased 7% to 2.27 million.
