Airtel has the fastest 4G download speeds in India, while Reliance Jio offers most reliable mobile experience for apps like WhatsApp. This is according to a report published by mobile quality measurement company Tutela. The report claims to have examined the quality of mobile networks for use cases that the customers expect.
As per the report, Jio offers the best overall consistent quality in delivering suitable connection for popular mobile apps.
It is as high as 96% of the time as compared to other telecom providers. Airtel on the other hand fares better in demand based use-cases. Its customers experienced an excellent connection 48% of the time, compared to Jio's 46%.
The report states that though Airtel’s 4G speeds make it fastest network in India, its 3G network is slower than its competitors. Reliance Jio being the 4G-only network has the slowest overall 4G download speed, the report further claims.
In terms of upload speeds, Idea and Vodafone had the best 4G upload speeds of 4.7 Mbps and 4.5 Mbps respectively. While Reliance Jio has an average upload speed of 3.8 Mbps.
Reliance Jio tops 4G speed chart: TRAI
Interestingly, according to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (Trai) report for January, Reliance Jio continued to top the average 4G download speed chart, beating its nearest rival Airtel with almost double data speed. Jio's 4G network registered an average download speed of 18.8 megabits per second (Mbps), while Airtel network clocked a speed of 9.5 Mbps.
TRAI report also names Reliance Jio as the fastest 4G operator in 2018, with the highest average download speed for the last 13 months. In terms of average 4G upload speeds, Idea topped the chart. After a continuous decline in upload speed between October and December, upload speed on Idea and Vodafone network picked is said to have up in January. The TRAI report claims that in January, Idea 4G network registered an average upload speed of 5.8 Mbps, followed by Vodafone with upload speed of 5.4 Mbps, Jio followed with 4.4 Mbps and Airtel with 3.8 Mbps.
TRAI computes average speed based on the data it collects across the country with the help of its MySpeed app on a real-time basis.
