Movistar delivers best 4G speeds in Guatemala but Tigo tops overall network performance

From September 1 to November 30 this year the Movistar network provided the best 4G download speeds across Guatemala registering 12.2 Mbps, significantly ahead of rival networks Tigo and Claro.

However, that said, when it came to best overall network performance across both 3G and 4G, including latency, jitter and packet loss, the Tigo network came out on top.

For instance, Tigo registered 72ms latency, better than the average, while Movistar scored 92ms latency which was on par with the average. For Tigo customers, this is likely to translate into a better quality experience for latency-sensitive applications like Skype and Viber.
The results were garnered from over 21 million network quality tests, that is, over 20 billion unique measurements.

About our testing

Tutela tests mobile networks by crowdsourcing anonymous sensor data from hundreds of millions of Android and iOS mobile users across the world. This enables us to collect billions of measurements every day and gain a real-world understanding of the mobile experience that mobile users are getting - not just in major towns & cities, but in all parts of the world.

Our testing methodology is designed to simulate typical user mobile behaviour, such as downloading a photograph or web page, rather than measuring the maximum performance, such as the peak download speed during a very large file transfer (which very few users will achieve) so that we can understand a typical user's experience.
