Mexico: Telcel and AT&T best quality, but high 4G speeds from Movistar

AT&T and Telcel provide best overall network quality while Movistar delivers strong 4G speeds

During the last three months of 2017, we recorded over 3 billion data points and over 160,000-speed tests across Mexico’s mobile networks.

Analysis of this data shows that both AT&T and Telcel are delivering the best overall experience to subscribers when speed, latency, jitter and packet loss are taken into account.

Interestingly Movistar is also delivering strong 4G network download speeds registering 9.4 Mbps, a very close second behind AT&T which recorded 9.6 Mbps.

These results are based on the average of results taken from users of each network across the country.

About our testing

Tutela tests mobile networks by crowdsourcing anonymous sensor data from hundreds of millions of Android and iOS mobile users across the world. This enables us to collect billions of measurements every day and gain a real-world understanding of the mobile experience that mobile users are getting - not just in major towns & cities, but in all parts of the world.

Our testing methodology is designed to simulate typical user mobile behaviour, such as downloading a photograph or web page, rather than measuring the maximum performance, such as the peak download speed during a very large file transfer (which very few users will achieve) so that we can understand a typical user's experience.
