EE dominates network performance across the UK

Written by Steve | 23-Jan-2018 11:00:00

The EE mobile network continues to outperform its three rivals across most network performance categories according to data from our latest report. For instance, in 4G download performance, it averaged 18.2 Mbps compared to Vodafone which came in second with 13.9 Mbps.

Results were much tighter across 3G networks alone, but when looking at other performance measures across both 3G and 4G, such as latency and packet loss, EE scored consistently high.

That said Vodafone scored an above average 1.12% packet loss, higher than the other operators but only by small margins.

The data was gathered from over 51 million records between September 1 and November 30, 2017.

About our testing

Tutela tests mobile networks by crowdsourcing anonymous sensor data from hundreds of millions of Android and iOS mobile users across the world. This enables us to collect billions of measurements every day and gain a real-world understanding of the mobile experience that mobile users are getting - not just in major towns & cities, but in all parts of the world.

Our testing methodology is designed to simulate typical user mobile behaviour, such as downloading a photograph or web page, rather than measuring the maximum performance, such as the peak download speed during a very large file transfer (which very few users will achieve) so that we can understand a typical user's experience.
