Brazil: Claro delivers the fastest 3G and 4G speeds in December

Claro delivers the fastest 3G and 4G network speeds - but TIM delivered best overall quality

During December 2017 we carried out over 3.9 million speed tests among Brazilian network providers. Across both 3G and 4G Claro came out on top with a combined average download speed of 5.4 Mbps (averaged across both 3G and 4G networks).

That said our network testing also revealed that the TIM network delivered the best overall quality across 3G and 4G. TIM balanced both speed and latency with an average upload speed of 2,729 kbps and an average latency of 60ms. These measurements are important because they impact app performance and user experience.

About our testing

Tutela tests mobile networks by crowdsourcing anonymous sensor data from hundreds of millions of Android and iOS mobile users across the world. This enables us to collect billions of measurements every day and gain a real-world understanding of the mobile experience that mobile users are getting - not just in major towns & cities, but in all parts of the world.

Our testing methodology is designed to simulate typical user mobile behaviour, such as downloading a photograph or web page, rather than measuring the maximum performance, such as the peak download speed during a very large file transfer (which very few users will achieve) so that we can understand a typical user's experience.
