Turk Telekom provides highest Excellent Consistent Quality in Turkey

Turkey State of Mobile Experience

June 8th 2021

All three operators in Turkey won in at least one or more categories in Tutela’s new 2021 State of Mobile Experience, which was released today. The report found that Turk Telekom offered its users the highest Excellent Consistent Quality performance in the country, showing that the operator provides a network experience good enough for HD video streaming, HD video calls or mobile gaming more often than any other network.

Vodafone offered its users the highest Core Consistent Quality, Tutela’s metric for when a connection is good enough for web browsing, social media sharing and SD video streaming, and the most responsive network with a one-way latency result of 33.0 ms. Turkcell found itself on the leaderboard in three categories: The fastest download speeds, the fastest upload speeds, and the best coverage.

In order to benchmark mobile experience over the last six months, Tutela has evaluated over 2 million speed and latency tests, conducted on the smartphones of real-world users of national mobile operators within Common Coverage Areas, between November 2020 and April 2021.

Key findings from this report include:

  • Turk Telekom won the award for highest Excellent Consistent Quality at 76.6% while it statistically tied with Turkcell in the Core Consistent Quality category marginally exceeding the 90% threshold. Further, Vodafone narrowly beat the other operators with a Core Consistent Quality of 90.9% indicating that subscribers on all three operators enjoy a similar network experience when it comes to less demanding use-cases such as web browsing, social media sharing and SD video streaming.
  • Turkcell outperformed other operators in the download and upload throughput categories with a median download speed of 20.5 Mbps and a median upload speed of 11.2 Mbps. The operator also took the lead for the coverage metric with a total coverage score of 648 and 5G/4G score of 546 points.
  • Vodafone stood out as the operator with the most responsive network with a one-way median latency of 33 ms likely due to the benefits its subscribers receive by spending majority of their time being connected to the faster 4G technology. However, Turkcell was close behind in second place with a median latency of 33.5 ms.

Tom Luke, VP at Tutela, said: “As our first major look into the mobile experience of Turkey’s operators, we are really impressed with the results. The competition is clearly tight with all operators on the leaderboard at least once, and in the current climate where reliable cellular connections are essential more than ever, it is reassuring to see that this level of competitiveness means that the quality of experience is being delivered to its users. As Turkey begins to implement 5G, we look forward to seeing how operators make the most of the new technology to deliver ever-improving mobile network experiences to subscribers”.
